1. What it is

The fish market is located in city centre of Fethiye. Follow the signs along the streets and soon enough you will find yourself in a hidden square bursting with music and the smell of fresh seafood. In the center of the open air square are all the stands where local fishers sell their catches of the day. Colorful restaurants blend together along the walls of the square, waiting to offer you delicious seafood.

2. How it works

Go to the fisher’s stands and select your fish for the evening, tell them which restaurant you have chosen for the evening and your restaurant will cook that fresh fish into a delicious meal for you.

If you do not enjoy just eating fish and would rather have more traditional meals, including seafood, then simply make your way to one of the surrounding restaurants and select your food from their wide selection of traditional mezes. Fill your table with fresh and flavorful salads, spicy yogurt, crunchy calamari, and overall delicious traditional dishes.

3. Rakı

Rakı is a Turkish alcoholic beverage similar to Ouzo (Greek) and Pastis (French). The anise-flavored drink offers a much needed cool, refreshing break from heat of Fethiye in the summer. Add ice and cold water to the clear liquid and watch as it turns opaque.

The rakı culture is very prevalent at the fish market. Friends gather together to enjoy meze, fish, fresh fruit, ezine cheese and the refreshing rakı. But it is not only the people, food and drink that make up the rakı culture. The live music is pivotal to tying the experience all together.
