Faralya, known as “the village on the cliffs in the Butterfly Valley”, is situated roughly 15 km south of its neighbouring town Ölüdeniz. Faralya, along with several other nearby Hamlets, is officially part of the village Uzunyurt, which, directly translated, means “long country”. And really, Faralya and Uzunyurt are interchangeable, both used to encompass that entire region near the Butterfly valley. But this picturesque village is far more than what simply meets the eye from across the Blue Lagoon and so here are a few of the things to explore while there.

Faralya has many different types of hotels available for you. So whether you wish to stay in a resort or go camping, Faralya can offer you these and everything in between. In addition to the variety of hotels available to you, there are also many restaurants ranging from traditional Turkish food to Italian to Pub Grub. No matter what, you will certainly find a lovely place to enjoy any meal.  Faralya sits just by the Butterfly Valley which is easily accessible. It is possible to go there by foot, but can be dangerous so would be wise to make sure you have the proper foot-gear before venturing down there. Butterfly Valley is a location you will not want to miss. It sits with its tall, jagged cliffs secluding the beach. Faralya is located just along the historical Lycian way and the Lycian Sarcophagi can be found just nearby. The sarcophagi are a form of burial that was popular in many places, but the Lycian sarcophagi are unique in their three part composition of a base, burial chamber, and Gothic peak to top it off. They are scattered all along the historic and beautiful Lycian way and some can be found just by Faralya, hidden in the forest between Kabak and Aktaş or on the beaches near Aktaş.

First, you need to get there and, luckily, there exist several different modes of transportation to access this tucked-away town, especially during the high-tourist seasons of June to August. A minibus, called dolmuş that leaves from Ölüdeniz, stops in Faralya, and continues to Kabak, another neighbourhood in the area. Your other option, during the high seasons, is to take one of the inexpensive boats that leaves from Ölüdeniz and brings you directly to Faralya. And, for the more daring, hitchhiking proves especially easy during the high seasons with many people traveling to the town for holiday. If you are looking for a bit more of an adventure on your way to the village, you could opt to hike there through the Butterfly Valley. It is a 16 km hike that could be done in one day, if necessary, but with all the beautiful views along the way, you might want to take your time and do it in two days instead.
